Winners Announced in the DLSU x Benilde Design Competition

19 August 2024

On August 9, 2024, De La Salle University (DLSU) and the Benilde School of Environment and Design (SED) held the final round of the Mutien Marie Hall Design Competition. This event was part of an ongoing collaboration between the two institutions to transform the ground floor and hallway of the newly constructed building of DLSU into a dynamic and functional space like no other.

The competition tasked Benilde Architecture students with creating innovative and sustainable design concepts for the Mutien Marie Hall. This challenge demonstrates the program’s mission to equip students with the skills needed to develop creative and sustainable design solutions.

After a rigorous selection process, three teams mentored by Ar. Moses Fetalvera advanced to the finals where they presented their designs to a panel of jurors. The winners were as follows:

  • 3rd Prize Winner: DLSU Massacre
  • 2nd Prize Winner: Adult Play
  • 1st Prize Winner: Neuroarchitecture

The winning design, Neuroarchitecture, stood out for its exceptional blend of creativity, functionality, and sustainability. The team’s innovative approach will serve as the foundation for the actual implementation phase, scheduled for 2026.

Ar. Ven Lawrence Quizon, Benilde Architecture Program chairperson, highlighted the significance of this competition, saying, “This initiative serves as a good platform for the students to apply their knowledge and skills to an actual professional exercise. It will also widen their network and provide them with more portfolio opportunities.”

The competition was part of a broader initiative to foster collaboration between DLSU and Benilde, emphasizing the Lasallian spirit of unity and shared excellence. The event also provided students with an invaluable opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world context, enhancing their professional portfolios and expanding their networks.

The competition is the first step in transforming the Mutien Marie Hall, with the winning design set to have a lasting impact on the campus. The Mutien Marie Hall, named after Saint Mutien Marie, is a 10-story structure located in the DLSU Manila Campus. It includes various facilities such as classrooms, study areas, and performance spaces, all designed to support the holistic development of the students.
