NOTABLE STORIES FROM JANUARY 2024

LOOK: FDM STUDENTS SHOW OFF THEIR CREATIONS AT SINULID 2024

Benilde Fashion Design and Merchandising students opened the Sinulid 2024 exhibit at The Podium with a successful runway show on January 26, 2024.

This year’s theme, “BEYOND BOUNDARIES,” lets the audience explore the concept of an extraordinary multiverse of fashion that transcends the confines of the ordinary world, breaking stereotypes and walls of expectation of what it means to become a designer. This year’s exhibit is another notable milestone of the School of Environment and Design in staging this second public showcase after the pandemic. SINULID 2023: RENASCENCE was the year the students could return to physically exhibiting their works since the pandemic.

Featuring diversified collections from 62 young designers, the 3-day exhibit was held at The Podium Ortigas from January 26 until 28. RTW, couture, menswear, childrenswear, maternity wear, and many more were on display at the Atrium, The Podium.

#IKnowThePlan Roadshow III

The third roadshow in the #IKNOWTHEPLAN series was held last January 17, 2024 with the SI Resource Management Team as presenter. The Zoom town hall of sorts, as mentioned by host Ms. Diane Ilagan, started by recapping the last two roadshows. The first for AY 2023-2024 was last October 20, 2023, with Mr. Angelo Lacson, Vice Chancellor for Academics and Strategic Initiative Team Leader, detailing the plan for SI Academics, and Ms. Lea Abarentos, Project Manager under the Digital Technology Office and Strategic Initiative Team Member, presented for SI Innovation and Technology. Meanwhile, the second roadshow highlights on November 28, 2023, were from SI Marketing and Lasallian Formation. Presenters were Mr. Marco Santiago, OIC Director of Benilde Marketing Center, on behalf of SI Team Leader Mr. Benhur Ong, and Ms. Nicky Templo-Perez, Vice President for Lasallian Mission and Student Life, and SI Team Leader, respectively.

Co-host Ms. Gie P. Villamor then gave the opening remarks on behalf of Mr. Reynaldo Villegas, CIP Director, and laid out the program for the rest of the proceedings focused on SI Resource Management. Mr. Juan Ramon Odulio, Vice President for Administration and SI Team Leader, took the helm for the rest of the discussion in strategic initiatives for 2023-2026.

Their commitment is to three attributes: efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability with Key Measure are as follows:

  • Consolidated Non-Traditional Revenue Targets
  • Active Generation of Savings
  • Facilities and Environmental Programs and Management Upgrades
  • Top-of-Class People Management & Organization

Mr. Odulio proceeded to share information on consolidated non-traditional revenue targets, which included income from the lease of space and LED billboard spots. They are also in the process of identifying spaces to be converted for non-traditional revenues in 2024-2026.

Active generation of savings details the following:

  1. Conversion to renewable energy resources with proposal approval and budget allocation in AY 2023-2024; implementation ’24 onwards.
  2. Tasks and process automation in Financial & Management Reports, HRIS, and PMS tools in AY 2023-2024
  3. Rationalization of fixed asset capes with the introduction of policy for repair and re-circulation of assets
  4. Manpower sizing with the implementation of new and more efficient TO
  5. Leveraged purchases in consolidated purchasing for faster and cheaper transactions
  6. Financial analytics and determining the true cost of education; managing exposure to EWT; standard pricing of service contracts

Facilities and environmental programs management upgrades include:

  1. Development and implementation of campus masterplan with approval of proposal and budget allocation in AY 2023-2024; implementation ‘24 onwards
  2. Creation of a disaster resiliency plan, in which approval of proposal and budget allocation in AY 2023-2024; implementation ‘24 onwards
  3. Upgrades to healthcare services – Creation of Clinic Patient Management System & Healthcare Manpower Management

Top-of-class people management & organization focus on:

  1. Improved salary structure for finalization in AY 2023-2024
  2. Re-launch of management and leadership development program including the assessment of the human resource pool and establishment of an updated leadership profile
  3. Establish Management Leadership Development Program

Mr. Odulio stressed that the non-achievement of these proposed targets would lead to a dip in sustainability, and, in effect, the overall economic and environmental sustainability of operations might decrease. Growth may also stagnate, and the overall growth objective could not be achieved.

However, the opposite of the above, which is the achievement of targets, will lead to the three Hs of Happy, Healthy, and Holistic. Happiness is the result of well-managed resources to provide for more people. Health refers to improved work-life balance, contributing to environmental stewardship. Finally, a holistic approach includes support for academics and students.

The SI Resource Management Team enjoined the Benildean Community to help the SI Team via the SRO acronym for sustainable, reliable, and ownership. Sustainability is easily within reach by adapting practices that allow the College to grow into the future, collaborating with different offices and programs, and being mindful and conscious resource-consumer. Reliability is delivering on commitments and targets, performing tasks with professionalism and diligence, and showing active concern for everyone’s general welfare. Finally, ownership is taking an active role in Benilde’s shared mission.

Ms. Ilagan closed the roadshow with reminders of the upcoming dates:

  • January 18-19 – Operations Plan and Budgeting Writeshop – Batch 3
