LOOK: Benilde Animation Festival 2024

29 August 2024

The Benilde Animation Festival 2024, organized by the Bachelor of Arts in Animation (ABANI) program, took place on August 1-2, 2024, at The Big Green Room (A1025), Design+Arts Campus. This year’s event featured industry talks from Mark Mendoza and Nelson “Blog” Caliguia Jr., both influential figures in the animation world.

Mark Mendoza, a director with over ten years of experience in animation and stylized treatments, is known for his role in founding Friendly Foes—a studio celebrated for its award-winning short films. Nelson “Blog” Caliguia Jr., an acclaimed independent filmmaker, has garnered multiple awards both locally and internationally. Specializing in Character Design, Layout, and Paperless 2D Animation, Blog completed his MFA in Film and Animation at Rochester Institute of Technology through the Fulbright program in 2018. Their talks offered attendees a deep dive into their creative processes and the latest trends in animation.

The annual festival is a standout event for ABANI, showcasing how the program’s cutting-edge technology and creative vision come together. Since 2014, it has been more than just a showcase—it’s a celebration of how ABANI pushes the limits of creativity, empowering students to craft visually stunning and narratively compelling animations. This event goes to show the program’s dedication to merging advanced tools with imaginative storytelling.

The Vivid Visions Exhibit at the 11th Floor Hallway showed off some amazing work from both ABANI students and faculty. The festival also included a graduate film competition, with prizes from sponsors like Toon Boom and Wacom up for grabs.
