LOOK: Benilde School of New Media Arts Opens Advanced Audio Labs

19 August 2024

On August 1, 2024, the Benilde School of New Media Arts (SNMA) opened its new audio labs and studios on the 9th floor of the Design+Arts Campus. Spanning 366 square meters, these facilities are designed to enhance the learning experience for students in Multimedia Arts, Film, and Animation.

The labs feature key elements such as the Philippines’ first Foley Room with a view window, a versatile 2.1 Classroom for sound lectures and recording sessions, a 7.1 Surround Sound Mixing Studio, and ten control rooms and recording booths with advanced technology.

This development highlights SNMA’s commitment to providing top-tier educational resources. It builds on insights gained from Benilde’s recent benchmarking trip to leading international institutions. During the trip, SNMA Dean Ms. Sharon Arriola, together with Benilde Chancellor Mr. Benhur Ong, School of Environment and Design (SED) Dean Ar. Harvey Vasquez, and School of Arts, Culture, and Performance (SACP) Dean Ms. Magda de Leon, explored advanced practices and technologies at top schools, including Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and Pratt Institute. This global perspective helped in enhancing Benilde’s approach to modernizing its facilities and practices.

The new audio labs attests to SNMA’s goal to lead in digital content creation with programs like AB Animation, AB Film, AB Photography, and AB Multimedia Arts. With guidance from expert faculty and industry mentors, students use the latest equipment and innovative curricula to develop their skills.
