De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde ranked first in the Philippines and 301-400 globally in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings for SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. Times Higher Education, renowned for its rigorous assessment of universities worldwide, evaluates institutions across research, teaching, and impact. This year, it reviewed 1,108 universities from 111 countries and regions based on their contributions to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 10, which focuses on reducing inequalities.
For more than 35 years, Benilde has maintained its reputation of pioneering degree programs that were once considered non-viable career options and thus were unavailable at other colleges and universities. In 1991, the College began offering courses in bookkeeping and accounting to the Deaf community. Today, Benilde continues to innovate by offering non-traditional programs responsive to established industries and emerging fields of specialization in Deaf applied studies, design and arts, hotel and tourism, business, and diplomatic affairs. The College continues its commitment to promoting inclusion in both program delivery and workplace practices.
Benilde’s Center for Inclusive Education (CIE) further supports this mission by providing essential services to students with specific educational needs and physical or sensory disabilities, facilitating their learning and social integration. The Center also continuously aims to provide reasonable accommodations throughout their journey from application to admission up to pursuing a career and placement in the workforce. Benilde CIE also champions awareness and sensitivity towards individuals as well as assisting other units in ensuring that policies, guidelines and manuals are inclusive.
In his message to the Benildean Community, Br. Edmundo Fernandez FSC said “A recognition by THE for SDG10 signifies that we at Benilde are actively working towards creating a more inclusive and equitable society, which is essential for sustainable development. This recognition substantiates our tireless efforts in helping build a just and humane society by ensuring that quality education is accessible to the poor and diversely-gifted learners.” He further commends Chancellor Benhur Ong, OIER Director Mr. Johnny Amora, and Mr. Neil Pariñas for overseeing the preparation and submission of our data to THE. Br. Dodo also thanked the Community for their active role in achieving this recognition.
Benilde’s achievement as the top institution in the Philippines for inclusion underscores its dedication to fostering a more just and humane society through accessible, innovative education. As the College continues to evolve and expand its inclusive initiatives, it remains steadfast in its mission to empower every student, regardless of background or ability, to achieve their full potential.
