Art Puno: A Creative Fusion at Benilde's Design+Arts Campus

Art Puno, the highly anticipated event at Benilde’s Design+Arts Campus, recently wrapped up, leaving students and attendees buzzing with inspiration. Running from January 31 to February 1, this vibrant celebration brought together the creative talents of Benilde’s student organizations, including Animotion, Aninag Theatre, Artelier, Ben-X-Dance, DrawINK, IGDA-GUILD, Karilyo, LIKHA, and MediaMax.

The event highlighted the diverse opportunities within Benilde’s design and art programs, providing students with a chance to showcase their talents and connect with their peers. The Design+Arts Campus buzzed with energy as attendees explored a variety of activities spread across multiple floors.

The Art Mart turned the 9th floor elevator lobby and 12th-floor cafeteria into bustling marketplaces where Benildean artists displayed their creations in various mediums at budget-friendly prices. Aninag Theatre’s original short play, “Mga Tinig ng Tanghalan,” paid tribute to local Filipino musicals, while Ben-X-Dance wowed the crowd with their performance, “Rocketeer.” These performances highlighted the students’ dedication and creativity, bringing their artistic visions to life.

Art Puno also featured a plethora of interactive activities. Artelier’s collaborative painting project, “Magkaugnay,” invited participants to add their unique touches to a large canvas, while the DrawINK Comic Exhibit showcased the talent of the organization’s members with physical and digital comic displays. The Museum of Contemporary Art and Design (MCAD) Manila presented Maria Taniguchi’s first survey exhibition in the Philippines, featuring her iconic brick paintings, video works, and objects. This exhibit offered a comprehensive look at Taniguchi’s multidisciplinary practice.

Workshops were the highlights of Art Puno, providing hands-on experiences for budding artists and creators. From Shadowplay and Claymation to VR Illustration and Content Creation, participants explored various art forms under expert guidance. The Mask Making and Wire Manipulation workshops by LIKHA celebrated Philippine cultural heritage while fostering contemporary creativity. For tech enthusiasts, the VR Talk on the application of virtual reality in various industries and the Video Game Exhibit showcased the innovative creations of Benilde GDD students. Attendees engaged with games using VR equipment and computers, experiencing the cutting-edge of digital art and design.

Art Puno was a celebration of student life and creativity at Benilde. It gave students the chance to put their skills to work in real-world situations, creating a lively and supportive community where creativity flourishes.
