The Bachelor of Arts in Animation is a creative and industry-responsive program that equips students with the knowledge, technical skills, and values essential for succeeding in the global animation field. With a strong foundation in both traditional and digital animation techniques, students go through the full animation pipeline from concept development and visual storytelling to 2D/3D production and post-processing.

The program fosters a dynamic learning environment supported by industry-standard facilities and guided by mentors who are active professionals in the field. Through hands-on projects, collaborative work, and flexible delivery modes, students are immersed in studio-based experiences that mirror real-world practices. This approach helps develop not just artistic and technical proficiency but also creative leadership, ethical responsibility, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

How do you tell a story with lines and shapes?

This course is for you if you want to create moving works of art. You will learn to:

  • conceptualize ideas to create pre-production materials such as character designs, background designs, storyboards, moment boards, and animatics, which are needed for the production of an animated film;
  • create business proposals that can launch as start-up or micro-businesses through researching the actual needs of the intended market;
  • develop the basic skills in creating solid drawings and designs for animation;
  • promote original Filipino content by creating works with compelling stories and appealing visuals;
  • exhibit technical mastery through the use of animation principles and different mediums and software in creating animations;
  • accumulate a body of work that can serve as their portfolio based on their chosen expertise;
  • exhibit interpersonal and communication skills necessary in marketing their work through story pitches and critique sessions;
  • demonstrate teamwork and collaboration in providing solutions to various social issues through research and design thinking; and
  • exemplify the Lasallian Core Values through their work and how they interact with any individual.

The Toon Boom COE program recognizes Benilde in offering a superior learning environment for students aspiring to a career in animation or storyboarding through comprehensive exposure to Toon Boom software. The COE designation is a public recognition that attests that a school’s animation program meets a high standard of depth, breadth and quality. This qualification provides graduating students an advantage by being in high demand for world-recognized studio careers that value a deep knowledge of Toon Boom 2D animation software.

Toon Boom software is in high demand by the largest animation studios worldwide. The industry’s top studios, who are producing the most creative 2D animations–both series and feature films, are bringing their animations to life using Toon Boom technologies. All of the 2020 Emmy Nominations in the category of Outstanding Animated Program were developed using Toon Boom software.

The School of New Media Arts envisions its academic programs to be the vanguards in creating digital content relevant to the people and society. Guided by prominent faculty, and industry mentors, and supported by the most up-to-date equipment, software tools, and technology in the College, the students experience innovative curricular approaches that enable them to create and explore the field through various media applications and platforms.

Because of the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, there is an increasing demand for technical experts and digital media content creators within most professional industries. And the SNMA Programs are equipped in responding to the rapid expansion and growth of interactive design, animation, film, photography, graphic design, and web design, as they cross various intersections of emerging technologies in art and design.

The School of New Media Arts is projected to become a major player and staple source of highly-skilled creatives. Its graduates are expected to take the lead in creatively responding to the needs and demands of the vast and fertile new media landscape.

Medium and techniques in the School of New Media Arts are categorically unique as they are constantly changing and evolving at an unprecedented pace. 

As they continue to enhance and establish discipline in the fields of animation, film, photography, graphic design, and web design, they cross various intersections of emerging technologies in media arts, interactive design, moving, and sound design, to name a few.

Collaboration and engagement among SNMA Programs can foster substantive collaborations to further enhance the curricula, students’ experiences and exposure, relevant partnerships and linkages, and possible job placements and work opportunities.
